Based from my belief that it is always better to give before you receive (you know, the whole pay it forward thing (love it!)), this year (2014) I made a new choice... from every body of work I create until the end of my time, the first piece will be given to a charity/organisation/foundation that is close to my heart.
This, the following of that new heart choice....
"A Beautiful Mind" 137x153cm oil and mixed media on linen given to Charlie Teo's Cure Brain Cancer foundation Mad Hatters Ball 2014 on behalf of "Neen" & myself.
This foundation first came into my life in 2012 when my sister in law was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She was a young mum to two gorgeous girls both under 10y/o...back then I recall that this was just far to surreal and could not be happening. Unfortunately, it was! Without going into the complete story, Neen (that's what we call her) was operated on by Charlie Teo the following week. At almost 2am Charlie came out to my brother & I to tell us how the operation went. For it being 2am in the morning and 3 massive brain surgeries under his belt for the day, Charlie was in complete high spirits and this passionate man stood before us claiming it was a very successful surgery and he tried his utmost best to cure her! The tumour a size of a fist was removed....and she is still with us today!
So when Neen asked me to donate a painting on behalf of us both, A Beautiful Mind was almost complete and was the perfect fit for The Cure Brain Cancer Foundation Mad Hatters Ball.....with all my love "A Beautiful Mind" was completed & delivered, ready to help raise much needed funding!
On the night of the ball, my painting along with many other exceptionally generous donations to Cure Brain Cancer raised over 1 million dollars.
I can tell you I am so chuffed and so deeply humbled that I was a part of that...
